Local Volunteer OpportunitiesJune 12, 2008 3:34 PM ET BSA Venturers - June 12, 2008WANTED: A few good men and women to help young people prepare for the future! The Boy Scouts of America, Iroquois Trail Council is looking for adults from the Orleans and Genesee Counties who are active with the Genesee Valley Chapter of the ADK to serve as guest experts for troops that are planning high adventure type activities. We are also looking for folks to serve as leaders for a Venturing Crew! What is Venturing?, you ask. Venturing is a great resource program for young adults that is designed to help your organization play a major role in preparing our next generation of leaders. It is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are ages 14 through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders and organizations in their communities that establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interest of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting, and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interest, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens. Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interest. Your Organization's web-site heading includes; recreation, conservation, education, backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing, these are all things that a high adventure Venturing crew would love to participate in! It's a perfect match! If you have a son or daughter ages 14 – 20 , we know you already love the out-of-doors, and would be interested in how to become a Venture Crew leader, please call Jess Markel at 585-343-0307 or e-mail him at jmarkel@bsamail.org [Received by Deni Charpentier] Chapter Gift BasketEach fall ADK hosts a fundraising gala which features Chapter Gift Baskets. Bidding on these baskets adds fun and excitement to the live auction and raises thousands of dollars to benefit vital ADK programs. The Genesee Valley Chapter Basket has always been a much sought-after auction item and we are seeking volunteers to take on this project for the Chapter this year. The Chapter Basket is also an excellent opportunity for our Chapter to showcase the uniqueness of our region and the talents of our members. So, what we need are some creative thinkers to take on a fun job! Judy Immesoete and Susan Aiello did a marvelous job of creating the Chapter Basket for 4 years and we thank them. This is a great opportunity to contribute to your Chapter and to ADK on an enjoyable and short-term project. You even get to go shopping on the Chapter's dime! Please contact me at or 585-388-1903 if you have interest or questions about this project. Deni Charpentier Outdoor Expo 2008We need you for Expo 2008! This years Expo is June 14, 2008 at Mendon Ponds Park. As usual we are looking for members to volunteer their time at the event in any way possible. We will be looking for people to help at the registration table, first aid table, workshops and the waterways events on the beach. Without volunteers it is impossible for our chapter to put on this event or even survive. More information and contacts here. Mailing CommitteeThe Mailing Committee meets for a few hours once a month, usually on the last Tuesday, to put mailing labels on the Geneseean and bundle it for mass mailing. If the Mailing Committee had a few more members, then everyone wouldn’t have to come every month. (I'm checking for the correct contact person.) Main Club Opportunities |
