Brook Trout Lake Trail Maintenance/Moderate Backpack Trip
Return with us to the site of last year's lean-to replacement project at Brook Trout Lake in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness. This time, instead of repairing a lean-to, we'll perform trail maintenance on the trail into Brook Trout Lake from the Moose River Plains. We'll be joined on this trip by Matt McNamara, coordinator of volunteer trail maintenance for the Adirondack Mountain Club, who will provide training in doing trail maintenance the ADK way.
Please note: This will be light trail work–no construction projects, mostly side-cutting of brush encroaching on the trail and removal of small-size blow-down (if any). We'll leave Rochester on Saturday morning, arriving at the trailhead early Saturday afternoon.
We'll hike approximately six miles on a moderate trail to Brook Trout Lake, possibly doing some trail work along the way in. On Sunday, we'll continue our trail work. If there's time, we'll take a one mile side trip to West Lake lean-to #2, where we can check out our other 2008 roof replacement project. On Sunday morning, we'll hike back to our vehicles.
This will be a great service project for our Chapter, and a great autumn backpack.
