How to get there:
From Rochester take route 490 to the New York State Thruway (I90). Take Interstate 90 East to exit 43. Turn right on route 21. Take route 21 to route 96. Turn left on route 96. Follow route 96 to North Wayne Street. You will pass through Phelps. Turn left on to North Wayne Street. The put in is on the North East corner of the bridge over Canandaigua Outlet.
Description:
The trip starts at the North Wayne Street bridge (put in is on the Northwest side) just east of Phelps and heads East down stream towards Alloway. The stream is bordered on both sides by tall trees with occasional breaks giving glimpses of farm fields. At approximately the 2 1/2 mile point the stream goes under Preemption Road. Shortly the stream will gradually turn and head North. The stream will cross under the New York State Thruway and then shortly Boswick Road. A short while latter the stream will divide around several small islands. Watch out for debris in this area as the channels tend to get clogged. The next bridge encountered will be the Gifford Road bridge. The next 3 miles find the stream widening and getting deeper. Just before the bridge at Alloway an old dam will be encountered which can be easily run on the right. Take out is on the Southwest side of the bridge at Alloway.
